St. Joseph native Thomas Adler has wonderful memories from his years at camp. His many, many years as camp.

Mr. Adler went from a reluctant 9-year-old camper to a camp owner and director and spent roughly 45 years of his life at camp. He detailed his experiences in a recently released book “Campingly Yours.” Mr. Adler will hold a book signing from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Borders, 5201 N. Belt Highway.

“Just a couple years ago, I was kind of looking around, kind of visualizing all the kids and the counselors and the camps,” he said, “and it just kind of occurred to me that I had a lot of stories, what led me to this life.”

Mr. Adler said a former camp director told him he would make a good camp director. That, he said, is how “… a kid in his 20s with no money ends up running his own camp.

Lisa and Cliff are the new Directors of Chippewa Ranch Camp. They reviewed Thomas C.’s book at Amazon and here’s what they said.

Lisa and Cliff’s Book Review
Campingly Yours is sweet and funny and warm. It makes you realize that a simple, honest life can be most satisfying, and that real happiness can be found in a wonderful set of parents, a beautiful Northwoods summer camp and a great game of baseball…we loved being drawn into the memories and the wisdom…thanks for a lovely read.

Thanks Lisa and Cliff!

Thanks to Becky Stark, who’s written a review at Amazon.com.  Here’s what she says about Campingly Yours.

‘Campingly Yours’ proves to be a enchanting story not only about a life rooted in a love for summer camp, but also about what makes a person truly good. Thomas C. lets us walk a mile in his shoes as he shows us the value of friends and family…including several members with 4 legs and countless others related not by blood, but through a shared love of a special summer camp. His life’s work of sharing the morals and kindness that he once learned through summer camp with his own young campers and staff is more than inspiring and is a true testament to the character of Thomas C. Adler.

If you have ever spent a summer at camp, played a game of baseball, loved a dog, been embarrassed, love the outdoors, lost a loved one, worked with children or simply love a sweetly honest, funny and heartfelt story…. you’ll love this book!!

Now it’s your turn to write a review!
